US nationals do not require an entry visa to Costa Rica. However, they must have a current valid passport and a return ticket to exit Costa Rica within 90 days. It's worth nothing that both countries are safe. To sum it up: Belize is faster to get to and its small size makes traveling around in the country pretty easy, but flights from the U.S. cost more.
