The chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime in Erie is 1 in 42. Based on FBI crime data, Erie is not one of the safest communities in America. Relative to Pennsylvania, Erie has a crime rate that is higher than 90% of the state's cities and towns of all sizes.
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the city's poverty rate of 26.9 percent dwarfs state (13.1 percent) and national (14.6 percent) rates, and Erie's median household income of $35,802 lags substantially below the state and national rates (both $57,000) despite an improved employment landscape.Dec 15, 2019
Erie is a pretty decent place to live. The cost of renting apartments isn't too high and there are plenty of jobs available! The only issue would be the drug and crime rate, but I would think that most cities have this issue. Thankfully Erie is a very small city, so the traffic isn't too terrible during rush-hour.
